TAXPAYERS FOOT THE BILL FOR STATES ATTEMPT TO REGULATE VIDEOGAMES
Any time that douche-bag Jack Thompson says a peep about video games the media is all over it, but this item seems to be slipping by without enough notice, so I will do my part... by posting it on a blog... take that FOX News.As result of trying to enact a law banning the sale of violent video games (which was found unconstitutional), the State of Illinois must pay the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), game industry trade group, $510,528.64 in attorney fees.
"Judge Kennelly's rulings send two irrefutable messages -- not only are efforts to ban the sale of violent video games clearly unconstitutional, they are a waste of taxpayer dollars," said Douglas Lowenstein, president of the ESA. "The sad fact is that the State of Illinois knew this law was unconstitutional from the beginning. Taxpayers have a right to know that over half a million of their dollars and countless government hours were thrown away in this fruitless effort."
So, next time a politician tries to throw video games under a bus to bolster his career, just remember, his mistakes are going to come out of our wallets. Rallying against video games is as ridiculous as book burning, records with satanic messages and any other form of entertainment used to scapegoat the actions of shitty parenting.
Also, my Xbox 360 died this weekend. It's costing me $96 (down from $130 after enough bitching) for Microsoft to repair it. Fuck video games.
